I can not recommend highly enough the use of the military Poncho. If it’s good enough for the army, it’s good enough for our camping needs.

There is only so much flora you can eat before you want meat for protein and that means catching, killing and cleaning a living thing so if this is not in your nature you should bring a good supply of preserved meat etc. with you.

To rig up a home-made trout rod, you need a straight, slender, elastic pole, such as can be found in any wood or thicket, some pins, and a small piece of wire.

Much depends on knowing how to fasten quickly, simply, and thoroughly. We give a description of some of the ties and knots most needed by the camper. They should be studied with a piece of small rope until thoroughly learned, so thoroughly that you can make them naturally, easily, and without stopping to think how they are to be made ; also, make them as they should be made, for often the slightest variation from the correct way is fatal to the security of your knot.
